  • Ignoring the Sigma DP1’s disappointing output file sizes and the noise in JPEG files, are the images that the camera produces actually any good? Well, yes. In the right conditions they are certainly sharp, smooth and neutrally rendered with no over-...

  • There are countless uses for a camera of the DP1s capabilities. The ultra-portable Sigma DP1 would make a superb choice for travel photographers. It would be fair to say Sigmas DP1 is the digital compact camera equivalent to Canons full-frame EOS 5...

  • Simplicity of design; Foveon image quality; excellent Sigma PhotoPro software
  • Slow autofocus; slow image processing; breathtaking price
  • The DP1 is about as far from the mainstream as you can get. It has some obvious limitations and some rather less obvious operational flaws but, despite this, the images produced by its Foveon sensor are of such a quality that you're willing to forgive...

  • Very few compact cameras, apart from Leica's M8 and Epson's R-D1, have taken a large image sensor and squeezed it into a compact body.Heat, battery and miniaturisation issue are only half the problem; the other stumbling block is the perceived lack of ...

  • Image quality, build, RAW shooting
  • Price, performance, handling, menus
  • Simply the best image quality of any compact I’ve yet tested, but the price, performance and handling mean I suspect you’ll need to think long and hard to justify the outlay

  • Fantastic lens, Solid build, Great pictures
  • Sluggish operation, Limited features, Expensive
  • Few cameras are announced a full two years before they hit the shelves in your local camera shop. But the Sigma DP1 was destined for a long and difficult birth.Very few compact cameras, apart from Leicas M8 and Epsons R-D1, have taken a large image s...
